On this song, Matthew began with a simple unplanned piano melody and Christian grooved along live with his guitar and 10 minutes later we had a semblance of a song structure. Matthew immediately put the headphones on and played a one-take drum track (with plenty of hiccups since it is already a canned take) to the 2 recorded tracks. This rough draft approach to composition on the fly is something Matthew and Christian have done together for the past 2 years in the Sacramento area (late at night when Matthew's kids are in dreamland).
